5.25.22 Make your voice heard in OSU’s Presidential Selection Process

Published by Megan on

Dear [member name],

As you likely know, OSU has been engaged in an open presidential search process to select our institution’s next president. Though not without its flaws, this process has been much better than the one that produced F. King Alexander. This improvement in the process came about because your union, in collaboration with the wider OSU community—including members of ASOSU, CGE, Faculty Senate, and SEIU—demanded more from the OSU Board of Trustees.

Now, the OSU community has heard from both candidates, and we have had the opportunity to learn about their views on a wide range of topics. I asked each candidate about their views of faculty unions and how they intend to establish a good working relationship with our union. You can listen to Dr. Martinez’s response here and Dr. Murthy’s response here

Now, it is your turn to participate. We encourage you to review the open forum sessions for each candidate and make up your own mind about who would best lead OSU. You can find their recorded sessions here, and you can give your feedback to the Board of Trustees here. Feedback will be collected until noon on Friday, May 27.

One thing is clear: no matter which candidate is selected, hiring a person of color to lead our university will be an historic first for OSU, one which we believe signals a welcome move toward greater diversity, equity, and inclusion. We look forward to establishing a productive working relationship with our next president so that we can continue our work of improving learning and working conditions at OSU for its students, staff, and faculty.

In solidarity,

Victor Reyes

On behalf of the UAOSU Executive Council
