President
Joseph Orosco
My name is Joseph Orosco and I am asking for your support to become the next President of United Academics of Oregon State University.
Over the past three years, I have been fortunate to serve in a variety of capacities within UAOSU, including the Communications Committee and the Social Justice Committee. I helped to start our Labor Education and BIPOC Faculty Caucuses. As the co-chair for the UAOSU Representative Assembly, I have seen firsthand the dedication, knowledge, and tenacity of our members. I am inspired by the progress we have made so far and I am eager to continue building on these successes.
My experience in labor organizing go back to my days as a graduate student working with the United Auto Workers in California, and as an instructor in Texas, organizing with the American Federation of Teachers. I know that the job for our union in the next couple of years will be to expand the number of conversations we have with our colleagues about what our members are doing to improve teaching, learning, and research here at OSU. We need to inspire them to join us in working to achieve the vision of a more just and fair university that has always been at the core of UAOSU’s mission.
We live in a time when higher education is under attack in many parts of the country. But we as faculty can have the power to protect academic freedom, job security, and educational integrity. By supporting each other through our union and amplifying our collective voice, we can make a difference for ourselves, our colleagues, the students we serve, and the communities in which we live. Thank you for your support.
