Dear Colleagues,
The Provost’s recent email (sent this morning, Monday, May 11) noted compensation increases for “professional and unrepresented faculty.” He said that this increase program would be a merit raise with no less than 2% and not to exceed 4.25%. The Provost’s email did not mention compensation increases for represented faculty which the UAOSU bargaining team secured in our last contract negotiations.
The raise package being extended to professional faculty and unrepresented academic faculty is the exact same compensation package we negotiated for our bargaining unit. Why the Provost did not reference the terms of our agreement isn’t clear, and we will take up the implications of this messaging in another forum.
What is clear, however, is that our Contract matters! The work we do sets the terms for all employee groups at OSU. And without that effort, given the doom and gloom budgeting scenarios that headline the Provost’s message, faculty and employee raises surely would be at risk.
These raises were the product of our hard work and solidarity. You can join here if you want to keep supporting faculty, and help ensure the administration keeps the needs of faculty (and all employees) front and center.
In solidarity
Marisa Chappell, UAOSU Executive VP
