Employment Inventory for OSU Faculty

Your union-negotiated Collective Bargaining Agreement has clear guidelines and procedures governing your employment rights and working conditions. Returning Faculty (Full and Part-Time)

For 12-month appointments: each year, raises apply to faculty who started in their current position before July 1

For 9-month appointments: each year, raises apply to faculty who started in their current position before September 16

For example, the bargained raises for academic year 2024-25 only apply to faculty who were employed before July 1, 2024 for 12-month contracts or before September 16, 2024 for 9-month contracts.

  • Did you receive all of your bargained raises?
  • If you are on a 9-month contract, was your salary increase reflected in your September pay check?
  • If you are on a 12-month contract, was your salary increase reflected in your July pay check?
Postdocs

Per Article 18, Section 5 of our CBA, your salary is tied to the NIH minima based on years of experience.

  • Are you at or above the NIH salary minima based on your years of experience?

According to Article 14, Section 1 of our CBA, your position description should accurately reflect your assigned work. This is important because your position description informs merit raises and promotion decisions.

Follow the instructions below to access your current position description:

Go to https://my.oregonstate.edu. You can get there by typing “myosu” into your search engine, as seen below:

Log in with your ONID credentials. You’ll be taken to the MyOregonState home screen:

Type “position description into the search bar at the top of the screen and you’ll get results that look something like this:

Click the search result called My Position Description:

This will open a new tab where you may need to log in again with your ONID credentials. Once you are logged in, the page will look something like this:

In the top right corner of the page, make sure the User Group dropdown menu is toggled to Employee. If it’s toggled to another option, you won’t be able to find your position description.

In the top right corner of the page, click the link that says My Profile, just to the right of your name:

You will see a page that looks similar to this:

Click on the link that says Position Descriptions:

This will display a new tab with your job title. Click on your job title and it will display your current position description that University Human Resources has on file.

Now ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does your position description reflect everything you are expected to do?
  • Is it specific enough for your needs?

If you answered no to either question, discuss any discrepancies with your supervisor and contact us at info@uaosu.org if you encounter issues in those conversations.

As negotiated in Article 14, Section 3 of our CBA, your unit should have a clear workload policy that applies equally to all instructional faculty.

  • Does your unit have a workload policy?
  • Was the workload policy created/revised with faculty input?

Talk to your supervisor if you don’t know the answers to these questions.

Article 15 of our CBA dictates that annual review processes must be clear and consistent. Your annual review must be based on an accurate position description, and the annual review process should be developed with input from faculty in your department. If you have not been promoted yet, you should be receiving an annual review every year. If you have been promoted at least once, you should be receiving an annual review at minimum every 3 years.

  • Did your supervisor initiate an annual review this year? If you have been previously promoted, did your supervisor initiate an annual review in the last two years?
  • Were the expectations for your annual review clear and consistent with your unit’s policies?
  • Do the criteria for your annual review reflect your position description? (And is the position description accurate?)

In most units, annual reviews inform merit increases.

  • Does your unit have policies about merit reviews and eligibility for merit increases?
  • Are these policies accessible to faculty?

Talk to your supervisor if you don’t know the answers to these questions.

All research and instructional faculty have a pathway to promotion. You can learn more about this in Article 16 of our CBA.

  • Do you know when you are eligible for promotion?
  • Do you know how to complete and submit your promotion dossier (packet)?

Talk to your supervisor if you don’t know the answers to these questions.

This section only applies to non-tenure track faculty.

If you have been promoted at least once:

Starting in the next year and a half (and by June 2027 at the latest), promoted faculty will receive continuous appointments! This means your job is no longer on a contract basis, so you have the job until either 1) you choose to leave or retire, 2) your supervisor can show that there is insufficient funding for your position, as described in Article 13, Section 6, or 3) you are fired for performance reasons as outlined in Article 21.

Bargaining unit members on continuous appointments whose position will be ended, have their FTE reduced in a way that impacts benefit status, or have their FTE permanently reduced, will be subject to Article 24 Termination Not for Cause.

This means if you have been promoted and you are not transitioned to a continuous appointment or receive a non-renewal notice in academic year 25-26, please contact us immediately: info@uaosu.org

If you have not been promoted yet:

Article 13 of our CBA outlines the renewal notification process. If you are returning faculty, you should receive your contract renewal notification at least one month prior to the end of your contract.

If you typically teach more than one term each academic year, this notification should reflect your appointment for the entirety of the coming academic year. Please contact us immediately if it does not: info@uaosu.org.

  • Did you receive your renewal letter one month prior to the end of your contract?
  • Does your notice include the length of your appointment?
  • If you were non-renewed, did you receive your non-renewal notice in a timely manner? According to Article 13, Sections 4 and 5 of our CBA, non-tenure track faculty should receive non-renewal notices at the following times:
    • Unpromoted Faculty – 1 month notice prior to the end of your current contract
