1.14.26 – Upcoming Events with Your Union

Happy New Year! 2025 has come to an end, and 2026 looks to be as eventful and challenging as the year we left behind. We will have more updates to share soon, but to kick off the new term we wanted to share a few upcoming events and opportunities to build deeper connections with fellow faculty at OSU and across the state.

Screening of “Adjunct” at the Dark Side Cinema – Thursday January 15 at 5pm

Your UAOSU Social Justice Committee is organizing a screening of the film ADJUNCT for UAOSU members and our community allies starting at 5pm on Thursday January 15 at the Darkside Cinema (215 SW 4th St in downtown Corvallis). This event is free for UAOSU members with a suggested $5 donation for non-members and allies.

Social Justice Committee Chair Sebastian Heiduschke will facilitate a post-film discussion. Check out the trailer here.

Odd Fridays continue Winter Term – Fridays during weeks 3, 5, 7, 9

Odd Friday is our biweekly, informal social for OSU faculty. All OSU faculty are invited to join us on Fridays during odd weeks of the term for a casual, come and go, family friendly gathering with ample food and beverage options. This is a great place to build and strengthen connections with faculty across the campus. Add this event to your calendar!

“Fight for Our Future” Rally at the Capitol – Thursday February 5th, 12-2pm

Join our state affiliates AFT-Oregon and AAUP Oregon, along with coalition partners across organized labor and economic justice, to rally at the Oregon capitol to prevent devastating cuts to public education and public services in Oregon. More details here.

Updates from a few of our Caucuses and Committees

  • Queer Caucus – The Queer Caucus started holding monthly lunch gatherings to build our caucus community. If you’d like to join the caucus or learn more about our monthly lunch gathering, contact uaosu.queer@gmail.com.
  • Labor Education Caucus – The Labor Education Caucus started a labor coalition reading group, inviting members from CGE, SEIU, and the MidValley Industrial Workers of the World to get together to read and talk about organizing and recent labor actions.  We met twice and are hoping to organize a list of readings for the next few months so that people can join in the discussions.  If you are interested in finding out more about the reading group, please contact Joseph Orosco at president@uaosu.org.
  • Social Justice Committee – The Social Justice Committee compiled and shared a list of community support resources (food resources and immigration resources) to address pressing issues around the reduction of SNAP benefits and ICE abductions. Check out these resources uaosu.org/community-support/
