5.20.25 – Renewal Letter Issues

Dear colleagues,

It has come to our attention that many faculty are receiving renewal letters that contain errors. In particular, faculty are not seeing their new salary increases represented in these notices, and faculty who are eligible for multi-year contracts (and will be eligible for continuous employment contracts next year) are seeing 1 year offers instead.

We met with administration last week and can confirm that the raises are still coming and that promoted faculty will be transitioned to continuous appointments next academic year, per our negotiations. They assured us the errors were the result of the process for creating renewal letters beginning before the ratification of the contract. Again, the raises are still coming through, and faculty will get transitioned to continuous appointments at or prior to their next renewal.

We have also heard about some renewals that contain contract lengths shorter than one year for faculty who should be receiving full year appointments or longer. We are looking into these issues. Please let us know right away if your renewal letter is shorter than one year and you think you should be entitled to a longer appointment. You can reach us at our main email account (info@uaosu.org).

We have also received questions about when bargaining unit members might expect to see the pro-rated $2500 payment in lieu of retroactive raises that was part of our contract negotiations. The administration has not given us a firm answer for when bargaining unit members may receive it, but assured us they are working on processing the payment as soon as possible.

On Friday, May 30, we’ll be celebrating both our new contract and the end of the academic year. Join us at 4 pm at Common Fields!

In solidarity,

Joseph Orosco, UAOSU President
